  • Hey there,

How have you set up your test site? Is it on a separate domain?

Did it in subdirectory “test” on same domain

    Check out this article here:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

Scroll to the section called “Moving Directories On Your Existing Server”. There are step by step instructions there.

Thanks for that. Will have a look when i can next get a quiet 5 minutes. That could be tomorrow, but like I said thanks for now

    No problem 🙂

    Hey there

My site address now reflects where I believed my original files are (ie all the stuff that was originally under the test site)
I now have a site which reflects the theme from the test site but has none of its content.

Any ideas how, in particular, I can get it to find all the posts that were on the test blog? In essence these were the only part of the site with any real value.
    Thanks

    Hey there,

You just need to make sure the wp-config.php file links to the same database (same name etc) and all the posts on the test site will be on the new site.

    Hey there,
Really do appreciate your help with all this 🙂
Managed to do this and posts have reappeared.

I have at least two other problems which now come to light.

The website now displays as pretty much text only (no formatting/themes/etc). http://www.creativeconfidence.org.uk

The login function now points to the wrong place.

I would have just moved all the files across from the backup directory to the public -html directory, but my hosts file management tools are awful/non functional.
    Thanks
    Michael

Unfortunately, if you don’t move the files from the test directory to your main directory, you will have thousands of issues. You will need to find a way to move those files.

Additionally, I took a look at your site and it looks like you did move the files. However, a lot of the code is still pointing to your IP address and domain and the test directory.

    EG:
    http://217.199.187.189/creativeconfidence.org.uk/test

When it should really just be:
    http://creativeconfidence.org.uk

Double check the site address on the “Settings” > “General” page in your WordPress dashboard.

    Cheers, will do as advised.
    Really appreciate your input here.
