    Was just reading all the latest threads here since I was wondering about the overall situation with that plugin. And I was really shocked as I saw what was going on over here. The plugin has been probably bought from the initial developer and has been wrongly updated? It disappeared twice from this repo because of violations but the developer is talking about “passion”? So, where is the passion right now? The plugin is not available anymore and there is no notice in that forum.

    Another developer picked it up and improved some parts but obviously have also cluttered the UI just a little bit to much.

    So there are 2 very similar plugins, doing quite the same. Both also inherits from the same code. But a proper solution is obviously not possible.

    Do I really see the OS Spirit going down the road here?

    C’mon, solve this properly! Bring back the old version! Or notify users about the current state? Do anything but just do it!

    Apologies for the delay. Please consider that it is Independence Day weekend here in the United States, and even plugin developers deserve to spend some quality time with their families, don’t you think? I am in process of sorting things out with WordPress moderators, after having been reported for violation of the guidelines TWICE.

    Look, rest assured that even if I have been developing plugins for quite some time, I’m still learning the procedures and restrictions of having something hosted on the public WP repository. This is a thankless job, that I do in my spare time because I LOVE this plugin (I’ve been using it for my own sites for a while), and I was really sad to see it die with such a great userbase.

    I hope you will cut me some slack. Version 2.6.2 has already been committed to the repo, now it’s just a matter of having it approved and reopened by the moderators.

    I just recently understood that I could access these forums even if the plugin was “closed” to the public, so please forgive me if I did not reply right away. Note that I am trying my best to get this resolved and to get over these initial bumps with the minimal amount of damage for the community.

    Thank you for your support!

    True, we also installed the new version and can’t find stuff anymore in the user interface. If it’s not broken, no need to fix it.

    @seo-dave

    well, I’ve already read your opinion about the UI. And I really appreceate your initiative and all your work, but one of the major aspects the original display widget was so successful was because of its simplicity. The quite minimal ui was just easy to use. Now there are just to many steps to accomplish something what was working just fine for the majority before. And such things are as crucial to an UI as website optimization is crucial for the overall performance of our website.

    @displaywidget

    sorry, but it doesn’t matter if there is a holiday or not. That maybe sounds harsh but there is obviously a major issue now on something which went just fine before. And a lot of confusion comes with that. Not to mention without any transparency on that issue from your side. I bet if you really love that plugin so much as you said, you would care a little bit more.

    Ok, I now understood that you already submitted an update which is in the review queue from the WP.org Team. For the future you will for sure post an update and let us know about it, right? At least all your love for that plugin should allow that, even on Independence Day 😉

    PS: And as soon as you take your responsibilities serious you will see how thankful the community can be

    I hear you (even though I don’t fully agree on putting a plugin before my own family). Look, it’s been a bumpy start so far, no doubt about it. Like it’s been said, you can downgrade to version 2.05 for now, until you feel confident that my work can be trusted again. Updates will be posted in the changelog, and I will monitor these forums more frequently to make sure all concerns and issues are addressed in a timely fashion. I will let my actions speak from now on.

    PS: even if I take my responsibilities, the community will never be happy, and being a plugin developer is just a thankless task. I’ve come to accept this harsh truth.

    Amen to that…

    We are just happy to hear that the plugin is back in the repository… the update is crashing a few of our sites, but we are rolling back and blacklisting the plugin from auto updates until we can get a handle on the situation.

    FYI We will open a new support ticket regarding our issue once we have more information…
    PS Hope you had a great Independence Day

    Same for me.
    Site broken after update in 2.6.2 (other testimonies here since this morning).
    Back to 2.05 version.
    Total loss of confidence in this plugin (version of @displaywidget) since the last events. It’s pitiful.

    I look to switch to Display Widgets SEO Plus.

    Update is now live. As soon as you update your copy, could you please let me know if everything is back to normal now?

    @displaywidget

    For me it is unthinkable to go back to this plugin.
    I do not imagine what happened to the sites (probably very majority) that are in automatic update.

    I put in production Display Widgets SEO Plus in version 1.1.2, which has well recovered the parameters of Display Widgets, and which has just switched to version 3.0 at the moment.

    In addition, geolocation, I have nothing to do, especially in this way: – /
    I feel clearly betrayed since 2.6.1.
    These methods are clearly unacceptable on the WordPress repository.

    Ok, good luck. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    “I feel clearly betrayed since 2.6.1. –> Since 2.6 version.

    @displaywidget
    Good luck also for you.
