I have a recommendation for checkout improvement when the site is set to require Terms Acceptance for membership.

The challenge I’m seeing is that payment authorization (through Stripe at least) happens BEFORE the checkout form confirms the Terms have been accepted. If the user has NOT selected the terms the page resets and throws the (appropriate) error about accepting Terms & Conditions.

The problem is that the potential member has already completed the authorisation with their card issuer, grows concerned about multiple charges (particularly in the £1000 range), and abandons checkout. Luckily we had a potential member email us about the problem so we’ve disabled Terms Acceptance temporarily.

My RECOMMENDATION is that either (1) the form ensures all the boxes are checked before submitting payment authorisation or (2) the Complete Checkout button is disabled until Terms have been accepted.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • Hello @craigburdett,

Thank you for using Paid Memberships Pro.

I am really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing here. If I don’t check the Terms, this message is displayed: Please check the box to agree to the Terms of Service., and no payment is processed. We recommend using the latest versions of Paid Memberships Pro and WordPress, so please update to Paid Memberships Pro 2.8.2, and WordPress 5.9.3, and let me know if this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Michael
