Support » Fixing WordPress » terminology for top menu

  • Resolved tucsonflutes

I have just imported an existing site to
The menu in the sidebar is complete but the horizontal menu at the top
    only contains “Home” and “About”
How do I add the other pages to the top menu.
FWIW the site at which I didn’t build is correct.

My first problem is knowing what the top menu is called by WP or Digg.

    TIA for any help,

    Paul Scott

  • I don’t yet see a way to backup a site other that to export it which is how I move the site.

Oddly enough, I remember that theme, and those tabs are a hard coded unordered list in header.php

You would need to edit that file to add tabs.

    Thanks, miklb,

Can I edit that file through the WP interface or do I need to go more directly through some control panel at GoDaddy. My site is at a temporary URL until I change the DNS and make the site live.

You can edit that file via the editor under Appearance, assuming the permissions are properly set. I’ve never actually used that editor. I copy the file via SFTP to my local machine, make the edits, and then upload back to the server.

Only AFTER I’ve made a backup of the file before making any edits. Regardless of the method of editing.

    Thanks!! That wasn’t obvious!

I would have used the same editing method as you but with this temporary location I haven’t been able to find the files like header.php.

I should be able to fix all kinds of things now. Should the regular WP interface leave my changes alone?
