Some sites have php redirects with them which causes such behaviour. Don’t worry, you can still check it out, just use a local hosts file to load your site with the real domain from the new server: https://www.siteground.com/kb/how_to_use_the_hosts_file/
Then, just remove the lines from the hosts file and proceed to updating the NS records once everything is checked.
Hello – Thanks for the reply.
I tried updating my hosts file (using Terminal on macOS Catalina) using the Site Check URL provided in the Migrator plugin, restarted my laptop and am still having the same issue.
A few things to note:
1) In the How To page – it says to use the IP that’s listed in the Server Details found in the kabob menu on the Website Details page (which is a simple, numerical IP address) – but for me that resolves to a blank page. So I tried with the URL provided in the Migrator plugin (which has a long string of characters as the subdomain) which then points back to the current named domain.
2) After updating the hosts file, I cleared out my browser cache and flushed the DNS cache as well, and tried in multiple browsers in regular and private/incognito windows and everything still redirects to the current named domain (ajrca.edu).
What else should I try?
Thank you for your help,
Andrew
Hello – Just checking in on this. I’m just stuck in mid-migration and would like to get through to the other side as soon as we can!
Thanks so much,
Andrew
