Support » Fixing WordPress » Temporary Domain URL instead of own Domain URL

I created a WP website using Bluehost.
After a few months running, it now keeps showing temporary domain URLs for all the pages, including home page. They look like this: http://box1111.temp.domains/~example/

My chosen URL still works when I enter it directly to the address bar, but even in Google Search Results it shows the temporary one.

I checked the settings in Bluehost:
Everything seems fine under “My Domain” (Shows the right name, is set to primary and no renewal needed)
In „My Sites > Manage Site > Settings“ under „Site URL“ it shows the temporary Domain URL.

Also, in WP General Settings the „WordPress Address (URL)“ and „Site Address (URL)“ it shows the identical temporary Domain URL.

I am a newbie and don’t know if I can simply replace the temp URLs with my chosen domain URL or if this will crash the site.

    Would appreciate your help!
    Lisa

  • Hello lisalisaba,

Try to use a WordPress plugin called Better Search & Replace, it will help you to find all the old URLs and replace them with a new one.

Note: Please take a complete backup of code and database before performing this action.

    Thanks.

Everything should be OK if you just change the temporary URL with our real one in WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL).

Of course, make sure that you can access your website using cPanel or built in File Manager if anything goes wrong. And of course, make backup first.

Thank you both @sinip and @kartiks16
It worked out fine to simply change the URL in WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL).
