Temporarily redirecting traffic for wordpress ur
-
Hi all,
I’ve looked around for an answer to my problem and have tried to figure it out myself to no avail, so, here goes:
I have a URL address, himclothing.com, that is hosted on WordPress.
I have a shop address, shop.himclothing.com (a subdomain of the primary address), that is hosted on Shopify. My partner and I have recently decided to redesign our website, but we want people to still be able to access our site and buy our products while it is under construction. With that being said, we fleshed out our shop a little bit more on Shopify so it can act as our standalone webpage while we redesign our primary one. I went through and changed my @ host file so that when you typed in ‘himclothing.com’ it took you to the Shopify IP Address instead of the WordPress one. Unfortunately, my wordpress admin login is associated with himclothing.com and I’m unable to access it. If I change the @ host file back so that it redirects to wordpress instead of Shopify it works fine, but now people will see my website that is currently under construction.
Basically, I want to be able to continue to log into my wordpress admin dashboard and make any changes necessary, but have any traffic for himclothing.com redirected to the shopify IP adress. I have tried a 301 redirect in my .htaccess file, but I either did it incorrectly or it isn’t working. The other alternative I tried is setting up a subdomain that will redirect to my wordpress site while my @ host file directs to my Shopify site, but the problem still remains where I can’t access my wordpress dashboard.
I know this seems complicated, but maybe it doesn’t to someone. I currently have my @ host file directed toward shopify, just in case we have customers trying to buy things, but it you need me to replicate anything, I can put the site down for a while.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
