• I am currently in the process of upgrading my server package, as I am at the moment only allocated 1 database, and I need 2 – one for wordpress, one for php link directory. So, this upgrade won’t be happening til after the New Year, so I have around a month to sit and wait, which isn’t what I want to do.

I also have another host and other site. I want to have my wordpress blog on my main site, http://www.cupargardencentre.co.uk. Can I set wordpress up on another domain directory – for example on another one of my sites, http://www.cupar-online.co.uk. So, if I set up the blog at http://www.cupar-online.co.uk/blog/ – and restrict access so search engines do not crawl the blog, can I then export the wordpress blog to my main site when the server package upgrade is in place?

    Thanks for your help!

  • You can make it so WordPress uses the same database as your other software. Just make sure the $table_prefix in your wp-config.php is ‘unique’.

Ok, php link directory doesn’t use a table called table_prefix, nor does it contain any file called wp-config.php – does that mean I can install it with the same database without any problems? How do I do this – is it just the same as a normal installation or is there a ‘special’ way?

    Just follow Installing WordPress.

And of course, you would backup your database before installing ANYTHING, right?
