  • I had a look at the page you linked. It is referring to NextGen gallery 1.9.3. The problem seems to be fixed.

I have captions working just fine using WordPress 3.4.2 and NextGen Gallery 1.9.7.

When you are managing a gallery, there are two boxes under “Alt & Title Text / Description”

The alt/title text is the small box on top. It should be used in case your image doesn’t load. It should be descriptive text that could take the place of the image (according the web standards). It also shows up when you hover over the image.

The larger box below it is the description. This is what is used for the caption. You can include html code, links, or anything you’d like in there. Then, just include the gallery and set the caption template.

As long a you’ve added your descriptions to the proper box, you can include the gallery like so:

    [nggallery id=3 template=caption]

Let me know if you’ve completed these steps and you are still having issues.

Thank you for your quick and detailed answer! You was right, it is the latest Version 1.9.7 on my server, but the error is still there.
I wrote an Articel and I put it into the Article with

    [singlepic id=60 w=320 h=240 float=left template=caption]

I just fill out both of the Boxes, the Alt/Title Tedt Box and the “bigger” one under these box, the “Description” box.

If I click on the pic for the larger version than the caption Text is appearing, but not on the Article Page, ther is only the Pic.

Ohhh. template=caption seems to only work for galleries.

This may or may not be a bug, but there is another way to add a caption.

You can include the element like this:

    [singlepic id=60 w=320 h=240 float=left]My caption[/singlepic]

This doesn’t work exactly the same as template=caption does.

I was playing around with it, and this is how I got the caption nice and centered:

    <div style="text-align: center;width: 320px;">
    [singlepic id=60 w=320 h=240 float=left]My caption[/singlepic]

The width specified in the <div> style should be the same or right around the width of the picture so the center is in the right place.

You can play around with styling it different ways to get it to look the way you want it.

Also, I noticed that both of these will display differently:

    [singlepic id=60 width=320]My Caption[/singlepic]
    [singlepic id=60 width=320]
    My Caption[/singlepic]

The second one will cause some extra space (a line break or
element) to appear between the picture and the caption.

Thank you again for your detailed answer and help!
But I had that with the single pic caption definetly before, not with the gallery. On a other Blog from me I saw today it (the caption text) was also nor more under the picture. hmmmm….
