Template problem

  • I have created a template page called ‘mainpage.php’ and selected this as the ‘Templates’ option when creating a new page for my site.
However, when the new page is viewed in the browser, it appears as the default theme page template and not the template ‘mainpage.php’. Puzzled… can anyone advise?. Thanx

  • You will never see the “mainpage.php” in your address bar – just the title of your Page, e.g.
    example.com/blog/newpage
If you mean the layout is not different than the default Page template (aka page.php) – did you edit it and the stylesheet to have a different look?

Originally there was no actual page.php template present in my chosen theme ‘Falling leaves’ which I believe is the default for pages. So I tried to create one and called it mainpage.php and chose this as the template for one of my pages. Should there have been a supplied pages template with the theme do you think?.
