• I was trying to change my template and I did what I saw in a tutorial and did it all through a FTP. Well, I want to change my template back for now and try and get something else. Here is my problem. When I sign on to admin, it just gives me a page with warnings , like the template I loaded up was bad, or wrong, I have no way of changing back to the default template WP gave me. I haven’t quite figured out the process just yet. But anyway, I need some help with this. If you can help me, please let me know. Thanks a lot, Richard

You need to explain this better.
Which template? There are several template files in a theme.
What do you mean “changing through FTP”? FTP is a tool to upload and download files. Not to change anything.

I have no way of changing back to the default template WP gave me.

sure you do. go back to your ftp. instead of editing those files, delete the directory and the files within it. wordpress will go back to the default theme once it cannot find the current theme you have selected.

you, DO, however, have to have the default theme available for it to use.

O.k., so I did what you said about deleting the directory and files, but now I get a 404 when I try to go to my site. I know, I know, I’m an idiot. So, if anyone wants to help an idiot get his page back up, I’m all ears..

I am afraid you misread what has been posted. You should have delete that theme of yours, NOT the default theme!
When you delete theme folders from wp-content/themes/ – WP reverts back to the default (if exists).
Now you don’t have the default theme there.

O.k., so what do I do now to start over from scratch. I was just starting up anyway. I didn’t have any content on there. Just a welcome statement.

If there wasn’t anything important –
    a) empty your database; i.e. drop the tables
    b) delete all the WP files, except your wp-config.php
    and do a new install
