I just noticed this issue, which never used to occur, but I’m not sure what has changed to make it suddenly happen.

My WP E-Commerce checkout page correctly calculates North Carolina state tax for customers with NC shipping addresses, with the appropriate total in addition to shipping, but once you click through to Paypal, the tax calculations have disappeared. Logging into Paypal and completing the transaction does not affect anything.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening, or how to fix it? I’ve tried adjusting the Tax settings under Store Settings, but to no avail.

    Thank you!

  • This is happening to me as well. I don’t have any replies on my thread. I’ve just told my client that we need to charge tax on all sales. I hope they fix this.

Can you guys let me know the Settings you have for a product (price, tax rate), your global Tax settings so that i can try and debug ?

    Thanks, Mihai.

My settings are as follows, though I’ve tried changing them several times with no improvement:

    -Product prices are tax exclusive
-Add per product tax rate to percentage if product has a specific tax rate [none of my products do have different tax rates]
-Apply tax when shipping country is the same as tax rate

I have one tax rate set up, for North Carolina sales in the U.S. at 7.5%, not applied to shipping.

WP E-Commerce calculates tax in the cart correctly, but it doesn’t transfer to Paypal for some reason. This problem only seems to have occurred recently–I just caught it the other day, but I believe it began a couple of weeks ago when I updated to the most recent version of WP.

I found an awkward workaround by removing the billing details fields entirely from checkout in Store Settings–since we only accept Paypal payments, that does suffice for the site–and for some reason, tax calculations are now passing on to Paypal. However, this is far from an ideal solution, as we’re planning soon on accepting credit card payments directly, and we’ll require billing details.

Any ideas what’s going on? Thanks very much for your help!

Brendan, could you post a premium support issue with getshopped ?
It would be much easier to debug directly on your website and see whats going on.

@brendan – hoping that this got sorted for you!! perhaps 3.8.13 offers resolution. Please try that out and confirm this is still a problem.

Unfortunately @misulicus is right and we can’t really offer much more support without more details and information. They best way we can help is if you go through our official support channel.

Just one more note… we’re in the process of overhauling all our paypal gateways. They should be ready soon. Follow our blog for more updates.

I am experiencing the same problem with my site. I am using WP e-commerce 3.8.13.3. When will the paypal gateway overhauling be completed?

    Hey guys.
It would help us in trying to debug if you can post an exact “configuration” of your store so that we can try to replicate.
Tax settings, product settings, origin country/state.
Once we have the settings that your stores are using we can try to replicate.

Thanks for the quick reply. My settings are as follows.

Under “tax settings”, I have checked these boxes

    • Product prices are tax exclusive
    • Replace tax percentage with product specific tax rate
    • Apply tax when Billing and Shipping Country is the same as Tax Rate
    • Apply tax to Shipping Address

Under “Tax Rate” I have selected USA, California, 7.5%. No check mark for “tax shipping”

For Payments I am using PayPal Standard 2.0

    • “Account Type” = Live Account
    • “IPN” = Yes
    • “Send shipping details” = No
    • “Address Override” = No

The tax amount shows up on the “check out” screen. However, once it sends to me to paypal to pay, the tax is missing.

@Imcclamb can you please post a product that you are testing with ?
I just tried on my local setup and tax is being passed correctly:

Seems ok here. Try disabling the Shipping same as billing option and give it another try.

    lmcclamb

    (@lmcclamb)

Okay, that did the trick. I was definitely using the “same as billing address” option at check out. After disabling that option, the tax passed through.

Unfortunately, this means that the customer will have to enter their address a total of 3 times (twice on the website and once on paypal if they use a credit/debit card for payment). If you have any suggestions for that let me know. Otherwise, I am still a very happy camper.

    Big Thanks!

Just as i thought. That option is a bit buggy but it has been worked on allot. From what i know of it will be included in the next major WPEC release.
Best for now is to leave it disabled πŸ™

Thank you for finally addressing this issue. All of the settings and results were exactly what I was experiencing. I’ve also just updated WPEC to 3.8.13.4. Let’s hope this is the end to a long awaited fix!
