Support » Fixing WordPress » Taking over administration

  • I am a member of a club with a website constructed using WordPress by a third party web designer. The club has tasked me with determining if we can take control of the administration of the website from the designer. I have managed to create and edit a couple of pages with no problems. However, I have not been able to access the page template. Will the template be held by the web designer? What are the club’s options if we can’t access the template? Thanks

  • So, first and foremost you need to ask them if they have FTP access to the server the site is hosted on.

If yes, then you should be able to access the files there. If not, you may consider using a WP backup/cloning plugin to get a copy of the database and transfer the site off onto a different server. There are many out there. The one I’ve had the most success with is Duplicator.

    Hope this help!
