Ok so maybe I have it wrong but if you populate the edit-tags.php with a list of tags shouldn’t they then be available for selection in new post tag area just as is the case for categories? I have nothing there. Am I missing something? If so what then is the point of the wp-admin/edit-tags.php section?

Are you trying to modify a core PHP file? You should not do that. What are you trying to accomplish?

Hi Steve. No not trying to modify a core file. What is the purpose of the tags page http://www.xxx/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=post_tag if the tags that are entered do not appear for selection as they do for categories for example?

You fill http://www.xxx/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category page with categories and they appear for selection when creating a post. Shouldn’t tags also be available in this way? If not why do they have a tags page?

Tags do not show up as a checkable list as do categories. That’s just part of how they work. The tags page lets you see all tags in use and link to the posts which use those tags.
