Support » Fixing WordPress » Tags For Specific categories

  • Hi
I am building a site that sells 2 different types of downloads.
    videos and music
I need the tags to be for either of the categories (not both).
for example if you click on the sport tag it will look in the music category and not the video one
    anyone help me please?

  • I hope I understand your question clearly.

If you like, you can create individual categories – Videos, and Music separately.

You can then assign posts to these categories depending on what they are.

On WordPress, Categories and Tags are slightly different. Categories are more visible on post headers. and follow the URL structure

Tags work similar to categories, except that they are less visible and do not appear on category widgets or on post headers (depending on theme). They can be linked or invoked using URL

You must consider that categories are hierarchical taxonomies and tags flat i.e. a tag cannot have a parent tag, a category can.

What you need is to create 2 different custom types, each with it’s own taxonomy (categories, tags).

Plugins that can do that are:
    pods (bit advanced)
custom post types UI (very good)

    good luck
