Support » Fixing WordPress » tags are being reordered (in a bad way)

  • Resolved antimatt

I’m playing around with hidden text with hover effects. When I publish a post, WP is reordering my tags and destroying my effect.

The jist of it: I have some hidden text and some specially-tagged visible text styled such that when the mouse is hovering on the special text, the otherwise hidden text unhides itself.

Here’s my HTML code, followed on the next line by how WP reorders it:
    <span class="hidelink">[arbitrary special text:<span class="hidden"> hidden text!</span>]</span>
    <span class="hidelink">[arbitrary special text:</span><span class="hidden"> hidden text!</span>]

The reordered tags make the hidden text show. So, my question is: can I reconfigure or disable whatever is causing my tags to be reordered?

  • Do you have in Options > Writing checked this by any chance?
“WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically”

That’s it–I don’t know how I forgot about that option. Perhaps I was thinking too hard.
