  • When you say ‘base’, do you mean term? In other words, can I have ‘blue’ as a category and tag term? Yes, you can, but I would seriously question why. The whole point of categories and tags is to help your users find what they’re looking for. Duplicating terms only confuses things.

If you’re doing a cooking blog, then you might only have 3 categories – breakfast, lunch, dinner. But then you could tag recipes by ingredients, many recipes of all of those categories have ‘eggs’.

Categories should be broad and inclusive and are hierarchical. Tags are specific and flat. Both of them create groups, so there is little point in using either until there is more than one in that group.

Yes, you can use / in the term, but that will be stripped out of the slug.
