 * It would be great to have a field type for tags so that users can tag themselves
   in relation to other content of the site, and to have tags suggested such as 
   a checklist (with checkboxes), or a free list.

 * You can create a list of checkboxes, a multi select box or use my field’s type:
   Custom Post Type Multiselector. In the first two cases, you need to write all
   possible tags when you create the field. In the last cases, you need to create
   a custom post type and create tags as posts. Then you select this custom post
   type you created and users should be able to pick the tags they want.

 * Thanks Donmik. As I said in another response, custom types may be a bit complicated,
   but list of checkboxes would work.
