Tag that simply outputs ONLY the number of posts in a given category

    Is there a tag I can use that will output the number of posts in a specified category? For example, if I have a category “miscellaneous” with category ID 1, with 7 stories in it, I’m looking for a tag that I can specify categoryID 1 and it will simply output the number “7” without listing all the categories or creating a list or anything. I’m probably missing this in the codex somewhere; just slap me aside the head and point me in the right direction. Thanks!
