    Hi Guys,

I’ve been looking at our high % of direct traffic on the website. I do note, incidents of self referral which can indicate a tag coverage issue.

    When looking at the data stream for Sitekit I see that GA4 is flagging;

    • Tag not placed correctly, Your tag may be installed too low in the page, which can impact performance.
    • Some of your pages are not tagged: Having your tag installed on all pages of your site is important for comprehensive measurement. Untagged pages may result in gaps in data and lower quality measurement.

Are the any obvious issues / settings / conflicts that could cuase this?

I have turned off the: Exclude all logged in users setting. Under SiteKit ->Analytics. Not sure why this was set, but let’s see if that was the culprit.

We also have WP Rocket installed. I believe this can cause issues. https://docs.wp-rocket.me/article/1492-google-analytics-google-ads-tracking-issues

Thanks for getting in touch @topps. I’d be happy to check and ensure that your Google Analytics snippet has been placed correctly if you wish to share your Site Health information (Tools > Site Health > info > Copy site info to clipboard). You can do so privately if preferred, using this form.

In relation to WP Rocket, this shouldn’t cause any issue by default, however, there are some configurations that can indeed alter the placement of any Site Kit or manually placed Google Analytics snippet on your site. While typically these shouldn’t impact the performance or functionality of Google Analytics, it’s not uncommon for a mix of settings to do so in some cases.

Once I can review your site, I can confirm all is working as expected. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing the additional information @topps.  I checked your site both manually and using the tagassistant.google.com service. From doing so I can see that site visits are recording as expected (screenshot).

I can also confirm that your Google Analytics snippet is placed without modification, and all seems to be working fine. In relation to the Tag not placed correctly message you may have received, this may have been due to performing a check while logged in if you were using the legacy Tag Manager Chrome extension.

I’m also happy to check for any URLs of your site, where it may be stating that the pages are not tagged. To do so, let me know of any specific pages highlighted so I can check. Please also share a screenshot or details of where you’re seeing this message.

To summarize, your site is recording Analytics visits as expected. I’m happy to troubleshooting any URLs that may have been highlighted as not tagged if you can share any such URL. Thank you.

Thank you for looking into this for me.

I note that via the Tag Assistant, I can see two page view events being fired. one onsite (i imagine that is the plugin) and other via GTM.

Seems I’ll have to get access and troubleshoot further.

Indeed, that sounds reasonable. It’s very possible that AdSense was also implemented via Tag Manager, using a custom html tag or AdSense tag.

In truth, very little in the GTM. Largely some Gravity form tracking. But I did find the second gtag. It’s been removed, and the second page view event is no longer firing. The Gravity Form events have been set up to track via the Google Measurement Protocol now.

    I’ll monitor things further.

Hi @jamesosborne, we’re just monitoring the Tag coverage summary report at the moment.
