Support » Fixing WordPress » br/ disappears

  • Hi,

I’ve put together a page that is all plain text. I entered all the text in the editor on the “create new page” / “Edit page”, working with the “visual” tab. I then clicked the “HTML” tab, wanting to enter an extra blank line before the farewell greeting. I used the br/ tag for that.
I then clicked the update button and noticed the following:
    1) An extra blank line didn’t occur on the published page.
    2) When I clicked the visual tab and then went back to the HTML tab, the br/ tag that I entered was no longer there.

I would appreciate your help with entering an extra blank line.

  • Try entering your text with the br tags in just the html editor, then publish it directly from there. Resist the temptation to preview it in the visual editor, or switch between editors first. See if that makes any difference.

    It still doesn’t work.
If I follow each <br /> with a semicolon, I do get extra blank lines, but then the semicolons are showing as well.

Seeing that I am unable to put the actual br tag here without using the open/close code tags, I tried the same with my page and managed to achieve the double line space. For whatever reason, I am getting a double line space regardless of whether I place two br tags between the code tags, or ten br tags.

    Thank you for your help.

I use ‘<br class=”blank” />’ to get a hard line feed. Insert in html mode, it will survive switching between visual and html mode.

    It works beautifully.
Many thanks for your good advice.
