Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
None of these steps made any difference so I tried a different approche to move the site.
Instead of exporting an .XML file and setting up a new wordpress install on the new server then importing the .xml data into it I used the DUPLICATE plugin and followed the steps they recommened.
Now the tags work fine. Still not sure what the issue is with the previous install as everything else was there without an issue.
Thanks for the response hope this helps someone else. This was my first go around with this in the future I will move all my WordPress sites using DUPLICATE great plugin.
