I use Cloudways Hosting, and they a take a backup every my server every 14 days. About a week ago this failed (and every day since as it retries). There are a number of domains on the server. All have the free version of Wordfence, some with the firewall enabled, some with it disabled. Deactivating Wordfence enabled the backups to run, so I let the backups run and the activated Wordfence again on all the domains. Then I tried a manual backup and it failed. Cloudways tech support said that the tables are locked. Is this a new Wordfence option, as I don’t see it in the dashboard?

  • Hi @cotswoldphoto,

Table locking is a mechanism that is used to keep data from being corrupted by simultaneous edits to a database table, but can prevent backups from running due to the table being in use while the backup process is trying to take a snapshot. The backup then fails because it was unable to read the table.

Can you have Cloudways provide more detailed information on the tables that are locking and any messages that are being generated?

Also, could you please go to Tools > Diagnostics, click “Send Report by Email”, and send the report to char@wordfence.com? Please include your forum username in the Forum Username field.

    Thanks!

    Hi @cotswoldphoto,
I’m looking in to this issue and if you’re still interested, can you please send me a diagnostics report as well? That’d be super. Remember to tag it cotswoldphoto so I know who it’s coming from.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi

I do not have the logs, and it has not happened since, sorry. I am going to mark this as resolved.

    Hi @cotswoldphoto,
Thanks for the update. It’s good to hear it hasn’t happened since. Best of luck with your sites for now!
