# Tablepress – Table changes width.

 * First of all, Thanks for creating this amazing plugin.
 * My challenge is that initially the table shows up in full or normal width and
   then a few seconds later the width drops to perhaps only 20% of the page width.
 * Here’s a short video of what I’m experiencing.

 * I am trying to find a replacement for another plugin that is being used on this

   loading time of that table is just too variable and usually very slow to load.

 * thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.
 * I see what you mean. The cause for this is a bug in the DataTables JS library’s“
   Horizontal Scrolling” feature. It basically can’t properly detect the table width
   at the moment, which it needs for some calculations.
 * The temporary workaround, until a new version of this is released, is to uncheck
   the “Horizontal Scrolling” checkbox on the table’s “Edit” screen.
    If you then
   want to add such horizontal scrolling again, you can use the `scroll` mode of
   the TablePress Extension from [https://tablepress.org/extensions/responsive-tables/](https://tablepress.org/extensions/responsive-tables/).
   This uses a slightly different mechanism that is a bit more robust.

 * Hi Tobias, I have the same problem, but I need to have horizontal scrolling enabled,
   for people on small windows / devices. What can I do?
 * I used to have no problem with this bug. But now I first have to resize the window
   a bit, randomly, before the table widths are corrected.
 * Seem to happen in Safari only.

 * I don’t experience this bug when visiting that link at the moment, but if it 
   keeps happening please follow the suggestion from the post above and use the `
   scroll` mode of the Extension instead of the “Horizontal Scrolling” checkbox 
   on the table’s “Edit” screen.

 * I forgot to untick the box! And it seems that copy pasting brought some weird
   code in. It all works now. Thanks a lot!

 * no problem, you are very welcome! 🙂 Good to hear that this helped!
 * Yes, you must uncheck the box. And that font/background change was probably from
   the copy/paste adding extra HTML `<pre>` tags, which must be deleted again.
