I am using WordPress 6.7.2, PHP 8.2.28, and Tablepress 3.1. My plugins are up-to-date and my site error logs are clean. I have had this issue for quite a long while. Here it is:

On my iPhone (using the latest Google Chrome), the existence of a simple Shortcode Block (Tablepress id only) reduces the width of the preceding and paragraph blocks. This does not happen on my desktop screen (using the latest Google Chrome.)

You can see the issue here: https://civilwarcycling.com/battlefields/antietam/gallery/state-monuments/

I have tried all sorts of Additional CSS in the WordPress Styles Editor, and I have searched this forum for a solution. I have also tried various WordPress block-grouping schemes.

I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you in Advance.

    Hi @suetibs,

Thanks for your post and sorry for the trouble!

Just to confirm (as that’s what I’m seeing on my phone): On a phone, your paragraphs seems to have (about) half the width of the table? But the paragraphs are fully visible, whereas the table is actually extending beyond the right edge of the screen?

Then, the table is not actually changing or influencing the widths of the paragraphs in any way! Instead, the table is “just” having a width that is too wide for the screen. This problem is called “responsiveness” (or lack thereof). For more on this, and possible solutions, please see https://tablepress.org/modules/responsive-tables/

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Thank you for your reply, Tobias. TablePress is an important component of my website, and I have found it to be very reliable and helpful. It is time for me to make my TablePress tables responsive on mobile.

    I have two follow-up questions:

1- I understand you to say that my page in mobile view contains a “non-responsive” table, by design. Are you saying that by using the TablePress “Basic Plan” it is not possible for me to configure a responsive table either to “Scroll” or “Collapse”? (I am asking only to confirm that my only real choice is to upgrade my plan.)

2- If your answer to question 1 is “yes,” could you please confirm whether the “Pro” and “Max” Plans are exactly the same with respect to the Responsive Table Features module?

Thanks for this great plug-in and your fast support to my questions.

    Hi @suetibs,

Thanks for your follow-up! Sure, I will be happy to clarify!

So, your table is “not responsive” because the content in it requires a larger width than what a normal phone screen has.

    1. You could actually solve this with the basic plan: Activating the “Horizontal Scroll” checkbox in the “Table Features for Site Visitors” section on the table’s “Edit” screen will make the table horizontally scrollable.
(The TablePress premium versions provide more flexible options, like “Collapse”, etc., which can be beneficial over horizontal scrolling.)
    2. Yes, in terms of the “Responsive Tables” features, the Pro and Max plans are the same!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
