I am trying to use the import tool to import data and overwrite the existing table.

There are 4 columns and 12 – 15 rows depending on the file I’m using.

When I do the import of an .xlsx file it imports empty cells also making the table thousands of rows and more than 30 columns….the data is only in the first 4 columns and 12 rows.

Is there a way to limit what is imported so I don’t get all this blank space?

I don’t recall having this problem last year when I used this tool.

    Hi,

thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.

Unfortunately, the direct XLSX import is not very robust, and as the internal Excel data format is rather complicated, such issues might happen.
Could you therefore please try again with the CSV import, i.e. save the table to a .csv file in Excel and then import that?

    Regards,
    Tobias

It did the same thing, however, I opened the .csv in a text editor and found “commas” in all the extra space which is what was causing the issue.

I removed them in the text editor, saved the file and the import worked as I expected.

    Thanks

    Hi,

that’s strange then. If Excel adds commas (those basically indicate empty cells), it must have detected a change in on of the other cells for some reason.
To fix that, you could maybe try exporting the (properly imported) TablePress table to a CSV file again, and then use that as a replacement for your original Excel file.

    Tobias

I created the .csv from a blank Excel file and then saved it as a .csv so I’m not sure what is going on.

I think if I just use this newly used .csv I’ll be okay.

I’ll do some testing, but I think I’m good.

    Hi,

yeah, Excel can be weird sometimes, and even different versions can result in different outcomes :-/
Good to hear that you found a working solution for now!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
