Table of Contents for Online Magazine

I was wondering if it’s possible to have a table of contents which dynamically displays the content of a current month’s online magazine. I’ve found some that will do it based on category (each month could be a category) but it seems like you can’t have the widget display the correct content depending on the month you are viewing. For example, I can tell it to show “August, 2011” as a category, but the following month I’d have to change the widget to show September…then my archived August issue shows the wrong table of contents. Are there any plugins that allow you to have the table of contents “stick” depending on which month is being viewed?
