Support » Plugin: XML Sitemap & Google News » tab-panel-site-visibility (Discourage Search Engines)

In my WP Admin, under Settings->Reading. The checkbox “Search engine visibility – Discourage search engines from indexing this site” (tab-panel-site-visibility) keeps being switched to “ON (checked)” which causes the site to insert a NOINDEX, Meta Tag, in Robots. This happens about once every 30 minutes.

I’ve turned off a number of plugins to see which may be changing the setting and it appears that it may be “XML Sitemap & Google News”, as disabling the plug-in stopped the update of this setting.

Is anyone else having this issue or can shed some light on the issue?

    Thank You

  • Hi, the plugin is not designed to modify that setting. It only reacts to it, in the sense that there will be no sitemap if the site is set to be hidden from search engines. Si I really cannot explain the effect you are seeing there.

Are you using an object cache plugin maybe? When admin object caching is enabled, this can cause old settings to “magically” appear to come back…

Thanks! I’ll check on the caching issue.
