Hi, I am just needing to know if it is possible to use this plugin to simply sync with my existing Simplecast RSS feed.

What is the URL to your simple cast feed?

When you mean “sync”, do you mean import? There is an RSS import option in PowerPress, if the feed is a podcast feed it will import it.

The link is https://rss.simplecast.com/podcasts/4360/rss and I need each podcast to automatically sync as a WordPress post on my site as they are published. If possible, I’d like them to save as a post under a specific category.

The feed importing tool in PowerPress is mean to be one-time event. The problem with having your podcast on two different websites is about to be more prevalent as Google Podcasts built into Google search gains in popularity. Essentially your podcast on Simplecast.com is going to be viewed by Google as the primary source and google will direct traffic to that site rather than your website. At that point the copied content on your website will be viewed as such, copied content, and may hurt the rest of your website’s SEO as it is displaying duplicate information found on another website. What hurts you even further is the simplecast feed for your podcast does not have episode (feed <item>) <link> tags, leaving your episodes not to have a link to anywhere.

To learn more about what Google is doing with podcasting, check out this interview from last week of the Google product manager in charge of their podcasting initiatives: https://newmediashow.com/2018/07/07/google-podcasting-app-product-manager-212/

The show “Developer Tea” is a good example of the problem, just google that podcast and you will see their biggest SEO competitor is their podcast hosting company. The links to that podcast when viewed in the iOS podcast app link back to simplecast.fm, not https://spec.fm (their website). The primary advantage of using WordPress with plugins is to take advantage of the web and SEO to benefit your website, not 3rd party services. Sorry to rant but I am passionate about how important this is.

The more important problem of continually importing is that you are loosing much of the power of PowerPress that allows you to customize all of the episode and Apple Podcasts attributes, let alone make sure all links come back to your website.

Please consider Blubrry Podcast hosting, not just to support the company that brings you PowerPress, but more importantly you can do everything from your WordPress site: write your show notes, upload your media, then publish just like you would for a blog. Blubrry is the only podcast host that provides free support via email, phone and if needed, scheduled screen sharing (Skype/Gotomeeting). This is what we are known for, saving production time and providing tools where the ultimate goal is to put your brand front and center so all of your intellectual property points solely to you.

With that said, there is nothing stopping you from re-importing this feed into PowerPress to pick up new episodes to achieve the syncing goal you are after. It will not pick up changes though in previously imported posts, it will only import new posts.
