Hi, you can add captions to the slideshows using a custom slideshow template which you can style to appear like that example. There is a captions skin you can use to get started, and and Meteor Excerpts addon plugin that you can use to extend the captions.

    Hi,
I guess I did not describe my problem well. I’m not trying to do captions. I want a slider containing a graphic next to a post with text. Each time the slider changes I want the text to change in sync with it.

I understand what you mean. They should look like they are separate and cycling together. The advantage of using slide captions is that you can style these to appear to be separate, but manage the content all in one place and only have one slideshow that is cycling.

If you truly need them to be separate, like you need to query blog posts in the second area next to the slideshow and can’t do that in the slideshow template, you would need to setup two slideshows. One would be a standard Meteor Slides slideshow with the slide images, and the second one would be a custom slideshow that you built with your own content. Then you would need to use a custom slideshow script and sync them together.

That second option is quite a bit more complex and would require some customization.

Thanks for your help. I would like to use the caption option but am having trouble visualizing it. Can you show me a site or two where slide captions are done so I can see if it is what I am looking for. My images are usually busy and having a caption over them would probably make it unreadable. Do I need to make a slide 900×400 and have the image 450×400 and leave the other half blank for the caption?

The captions skin would put the captions over the slideshow, at the bottom of the slides. You could change the styling to move the captions outside of the slideshow so they aren’t covering the slide images.

For the layout you want it would be simplest to make the slides wider than you need for the slide images as you suggested, and use that additional space for the captions. Similar to this slideshow, but maybe with the right side of the image blank for the captions:
