Sync fails when basic auth is used

Just spent a good chunk of time chasing this one down.

Sync was hanging on “deleting old data” forever. Ajax calls returned 200 response with valid JSON. Nothing showed up in PHP error logs.

FINALLY after a day and half of debugging, I decided to try and disable basic auth on the site and, low and behold, the sync started working. It might be helpful to others if this was documented some where.
