Is it possible to set categories from parent post to the attached media? I have a custom post with categories and tags, there is a gallery with many images and I want to set the categories and tags of the pictures to exactly the same as parent (they are already set up to use same taxonomies). If I use a template like “template:[+terms:project_category+]” for the title, it works. But how can I do it to set a category?
    1. There is no text field, just checkboxes! Where can I use the template?
    2. How can I get the taxonomies from post_parent?

Thanks for your question. I am travelling until December 11 but I can give you some preliminary suggestions. There are two solutions you might find useful.

First, you can use an IPTC/EXIF mapping rule combined with one of the MLA example plugins. The “MLA Substitution Parameter Hooks Example” plugin adds a parent_terms: substitution parameter prefix you can use in a mapping rule. It was developed for this earlier support topic:

    Parent category tag

The example plugin installation process has changed since that topic. If you want to try the example plugin:

    1. Navigate to the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab.
    2. Click the “Example PLugins” button.
    3. In the “Search Plugins” text box, type “substitution” and then click “Search Plugins”.
    4. Hover over the “MLA Substitution Parameter Hooks Example” title and click the “Install” rollover action.
    5. Navigate to the Plugins/Installed Plugins admin submenu.
    6. Find the “MLA Substitution Parameter Hooks Example” plugin and activate it as you would any other WordPress plugin.

Once that’s done you can use something like template:[+parent_terms:project_category+] in your mapping rule.

The second approach uses a different example plugin, “Smart Media Categories”. It offers a number of features that help you manage terms assigned to attached media from their parent. You can find detailed information on this plugin by reading its documentation:

    Smart Media Categories Documentation

If this approach works for you, install and activate the example plugin using the steps outlined above. Search for “smart” to find it easily.

I hope the above suggestions are helpful. I will leave this topic unresolved until I hear back from you. As I said, I can give you more specific help once I return home. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

Thank you very much for this great plugin and your support!
I took the second way with Smart Media Categories and it works fine.

Thanks for update with the good news and the kind words. I am happy to hear the Smart Media Categories example plugin works well for you.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the example plugin.
