switching to wordpress, same domain (5 posts)

    hi there

I've just switched to wordpress to work on my outdated website.

my plan: Domain stays the same but i don't need any files of my old website for a fresh start with wordpress.

The wordpress installation guide suggested to install wordpress in a sub folder which i did to then easily take down my website and take over the root domain. ( i don't care if my website is blank for a few days).
I checked the files and they are all mashed up and it doesn't look like it installed WP in a subfolder.

so... what do I do now. how do i take down my website without accidentally deleting one of the files needed for wordpress.

    or 2.
Can i leave the files up and just let wordpress overwrite them?

(I'm not very experienced and this is my first wordpress website so please try and explain it with words of simple mortal men. thanks!)

when I preview in wordpress admin mode i go straight to my normal website
... does that mean the installation guide just threw everything into the same directory?!?!

hey sorry for the late reply.

I've just sent the web hosting provider guys a mail asking if there where any folders on the server before I uploaded my first website. Just to make sure.... so that I can just delete all old website related files. There aren't that many files so doing it manualy is an option.

I'll tell you if that fixed the problem. if that doesn't help.... redirecting?

you can still have a look at it i published the pages of the new one even if its under construction so you can see it.
in the url you'll already see the problem.
