Support » Theme: Twenty Nineteen » Switching from old wordpress Coraline Theme to Twenty Nineteen

    On my blog http://www.baumwollarchives.com I am using the out of date wordpress theme Coraline that I’m running on the latest wordpress 5.1.1. I know I need to change the theme because it’s not up to date especially to work on mobile devices. I’m also worried it will stop being compatible with future wordpress updates. I’m thinking about changing to the wordpress Twenty Nineteen theme. But I have questions that I can’t seem to find as follows:

    1: I want my home page to be my blog like my current site. That is I don’t want a menu item that says blog. I want my menu item HOME to be my blog. Can this be done? I can’t find any examples online of what the blog page looks like on the Twenty Nineteen theme.

    2: Can I have my content on the left with a side bar with widgets on the right for both posts and pages?

    3: On my current Coraline theme, I have 13 menu items and they are stacked because they don’t all fit in one row. On Twenty Nineteen is there a limit to how many menu items I can have? Can the menu items be stacked if needed? If need be can CSS style sheet be modified to allow this?

    4: On my current Coraline theme, the site title “Baumwoll Archives” is prominent and bold. But on the Twenty Nineteen Theme the site title is very small at the top. Can this be made bolder?

    5: When I change the theme, will the formatting on my posts and pages transfer correctly or will they have to be re-formatted.

    5: And finally, perhaps someone can recommend another theme that best fits what I’m trying to accomplish if I can’t with the Twenty Nineteen theme. Any one that has any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your help with my questions.

    1. Yes, that’s how WordPress operates unless you change it yourself at Settings > Reading, it’s not controlled by the theme.

    2. Not without heavy customization, Twenty Nineteen has no sidebar and only a widget area in the footer.

    3. The limit depends on the size of the viewing screen, if it hits the edge it will wrap over to two rows.

    4. Add this under Additional CSS in the Customizer and adjust as needed:

    .site-title {
        font-size: 5em;
    }

    5. They’ll basically be re-styled to fit in the theme, but not directly modified, like fonts and colors may change. Think of the content as you, and the theme as a jacket you’re wearing. Depending on which jacket you wear, you look different, but it’s still you.

    6. Any theme can do what you need, except for items 2 and 4. You can make those work anywhere with customization, but probably not out-of-the-box. Use the Feature Filter button at https://wordpress.org/themes/browse/new/ to narrow down your choices.

    Thanks so much James for your help!
