I have built up a site in a sub-directory of my own website, now it needs to get moved to my clients hosting and domain name which they just purchased.

Ive seen some tutorials to do one or the other(change domain name OR change hosting), but not both.

If anyone knows a good tutorial i would appreciate it!

Im trying these instructions but having problems, ive backed up my previous install, and database.
Then went in and changed the URLs, and again backed up these files as well as the database.

Now on the new server im trying to upload that same database but cant figure out how to do it correctly.

If You Want Your Old Blog To Still Work
Caution: Make sure you have a backup of your old blog's WordPress database before proceeding!

Part A - Activating Your New Blog

Download your entire WordPress installation to your hard drive. Name the folder appropriately to indicate that this is your OLD blog's installation.
    Download your database.
Go back to your OLD blog and go to options and change the url (both of them) to that of your new site.
Again, download your entire WordPress installation to your hard drive. Name the folder appropriately to indicate that this is your NEW blog's installation.
Download your database once again (but keep the old one). Upload this database to your new server. It will be easiest if you use the same database name and you create a user with the same login credentials on your new server as on your old server.
If you used a different database name and/or user (see previous step), edit wp-config.php in your NEW blog's installation folder appropriately.
Upload the NEW blog's installation folder to your new site. Presto, your NEW blog should be working!

I'be bolded out the step im stuck in. How am I supposed to do this?

ok I figured this out- btw, i came across a bunch of other threads hitting this same problem. So maybe an update to those instructions would be helpful.

You backup the old database (phpmyadmin>database>export)
Then- you do NOT upload this to the new site, but (through "MySQL" on the new site location) you create a totally new database, create your username, then apply that username to the database.

Then IMPORT the old database into the one you just created.(through phpmyadmin).

Then, as the other instructions stated, edit the wp_config.php file to correspond with the correct database, user, password.
