Two people are working on a site. One mainly uses the HTML editor, the other uses mainly the visual editor.

If the first person adds some javascript that creates an affiliate search box in the HTML editor all is well.

Then the 2nd person opens that page in their visual editor to make their edits. When she then views the page the javascript has been stripped out so there is no search box as intended.

This means there is no point to the visual editor if any script is to be added. And both people must work in HTML.

Is there any way to prevent code being stripped out like this?

    Thanks

  • It’s a known limitation of the tinymce editor, and not one that I think has been successfully remedied

To put it simply, if any code is pasted in, the view cannot be switched

Thanks for confirming what seems a major weakness (IMO).

Any idea if the TinyMCE-Advanced (or any other) overcomes this issue or whether WP are likely to remedy it at any time soon?

I haven’t used any other editor, sorry. You are correct though, it is a pain. Especially in a unique situation like yours.

I know a while back I’d heard rumblings of fixing the editor / making a new one. But I don’t think anything is on the scope real soon that will take care of this particular problem.

    Thanks for your replies.

I’ll just have to cut the script every time I look at visual then paste it back later. A real pain.

The way around this would be to make a simple plugin to include the code in the page with a short code. The code then won’t appear within the editor so won’t be affected by switching editor mode.
