• I’ve recently switched from Shopify to WooCommerce.
I have a little confusion over the payment gateways –

It seems BACS doesn’t actually accept payments, it gives the shopper account info for making a direct deposit. Correct?

When selecting Credit Card, it seems the Mijireh add-on takes over. Is this the option most similar to how Shopify works? Basically, the shopper gives their credit card info and Mijireh will handle the rest?

  • @alexisfrsh, you are right, BACS just show information and not accept payment. However, in order to add credit card function to your online store, you can use Mijireh Checkout as credit card payment gateway, more details refer here.

WooThemes also sells a bunch of payment processing extensions. Personally, I am a big fan of Stripe, but I know that isn’t valid for everyone in the world yet.

@terrytsang – thank you for the BACS clarification, and the Mijireh tip. We looked into Mij as an option, but it seemed a bit complicated.. Which brings me to my follow up question –

@helgatheviking – could PayPal act as a standalone payment processor without the need for Stripe, or even Mijireh? (In other words, when going through the check out process, and I correct in assuming that when it comes time to pay, will the shopper be taken to a PayPal screen, enter their info, and then be diverted back to some sort of “Payment Received!” page on the original site?)

@alexisfrsh – Yes you can accept payment via only PayPal if you chose. The standard PayPal option (I believe that is what is baked into WooCommerce) will redirect users to PayPal for payment and then back to your site. Not redirecting to PayPal requires a premium extension and probably also an SSL certificate.
