• I’ve installed a fresh copy of WordPress into a new folder inside my original site. I’d like to copy my original database into the new site so I can make changes to it.

Using PHP My Admin I created a new database and dumped my old database into it, so there should be 2 identical databases with different names, users and passwords.

Seems to me I should just go into wp-config in the new site and change it to reflect the new values, then go into wp-options and change the site url to the new url.

Doesn’t work– no warnings, nothing, just a blank page. Any ideas?

  • In the wp-options table; you have two values (home url and site url)… both will need to be adjusted.

Is this a multi-site install? If so; there will be some additional steps.

Did you check the codex on Moving WordPress?

I don’t see a home url, but I have changed the site URL to the correct value.

Am I correct that you should be able to hook up any WordPress database to a fresh WP install just by changing config.php and the settings in wp-options?
