.swf vs. .flv? Movie in sidebar

    I’m wanting to add a movie into my sidebar (using widgetized theme “Beautiful Sunrise”).
    I thought that my best bet was using the plugin “WP-SWFObject”.
    Now when I get to the movie part I realize that a .swf isn’t a no-brainer for me as my export options for movies are all .flv or .mov
    Will a .flv work in place of a .swf?

    My movie tolls have been iMovie, Quicktime Pro and Adobe Flash CS3 Encoder.
    As far as I cn see none of these will export the movie as a .swf.
