    Hi,

Plugin shows “No Thumbnail” image if original image is webp.

My posts do not use featured image but thumbs are created from the first image in post. Images are covers, fetched automatically from metadata source website during the post creation process. So it gets what it can and I can’t manually interfere. Most of the times it is jpg or png, but lately, there are webp covers.

So my first image in the post is sometimes webp, and the plugin can’t create a thumbnail.

    Hi @abegreenpress,

So you’re not using a plugin to generate these .webp images but you’re pulling them from some external API/site? Are these .webp images being inserted in the Media Library when you do so, or are they just being loaded on the post from the external URL?

Image is inside the post, not set as featured image, not loaded in media library and yes, served from external image host url. It’s just a text link.

My popular posts widget shows everything correctly except if the original image in the post (first image in post) is webp. In that case widget thumbnail shows “No Thumbnail” image.

Alright, do you have a sample URL where I could see a .webp image as the first image on post? I’d like to try and recreate this issue on my test site and see if there’s something we can do about it.

Quick update @abegreenpress: found out why the plugin isn’t picking up .webp images and I have a fix ready for that (well, almost, needs some testing but it’s looking good so far) so thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Thank you. WebP gave me many headaches since it’s generally not supported anywhere yet, and I go from place to place, bringing attention to that problem.

Took a bit longer than intended but version 6.4.1 is out which includes the fix I was talking about above 🙂
