    Or any workaround?
 * The current plugin seems crop the background image instead of scaling the ratio.

 * In the [FAQ](https://wordpress.org/plugins/external-featured-image/faq/) section,
   we explain how the plugin works. As you can see, we add the actual external image
   as a `background` property of a fake image element. The size of the “fake” image
   depends on your theme’s CSS rules, and the actual external image is scaled and
   cropped accordingly.
 * Unfortunately, I’m afraid that there are no workaround to this problem. I’ve 
   been investigating different solutions, but none of them is generic enough to
   satisfy everyone’s needs.
