Support for alternate links

    @simonmackay

    Hi all!

    There is a feature that I would like to see provided in WordPress where I can have an official permalink for the articles as what is currently in use. But I would like to create an “alternate” permalink which can be a shortened version of the standard permalink. This is especially as each article has an official permalink of <blog-name>/<year>/<month-number>/<post-title> and each page has <blog-title>/page-master-group>/page-group>/<page-title>. Here, I could have an alternate permalink which is simply <blog-name>/<post-title> or <blog-name>/<page-title> which could make it easier to publish references to posts or pages. There could be ways of handling index crawlers that could be stymied by alternate permalinks.

    With regards,

    Simon Mackay

    Look in “Settings/Permalinks” under “Custom Structure”.

    Here is the Codex for custom permalinks. This lists the various permalink structures you can use, and describes how to implement them.
