    Hi @ryan2685, thank-you for the follow-up.

I will be looking back into this in detail today with members of the QA team, as we have recently released some updates for Wordfence Central that should have mitigated template sync issues. I was able to find your account information, so can provide further feedback once we’ve taken another look.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

    Hi again @ryan2685,

We managed to return all 43 sites and the 2 in-use templates to reporting as “In Sync” again. I have been keeping an eye on the situation sporadically all day, and will be for the next ~24 hours to see if any of the sites, or templates, lose this status again. On that note, there is one site that did return to “Local Changes”, was re-synced manually without issue, but returned again. I have requested that the Central team look into any differences between the template and this site’s local configuration.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

    Hi @wfpeter

Thanks for your response I have had a look this morning and I can see that as scans are taking place on our websites using our “basic template” are reporting as “local changes” at the time of sending this and none of our other plans seem to of changed but that’s as of 09:15am (GMT) I look forward to hearing about this further and thank you for the progress made.

    Hi @ryan2685,

Thanks for reporting back, I signed in this morning to see the same thing. Upon attempting a forced synchronization, 12 of the 20 sites on that template returned to “In Sync”, but the others could be returned individually without issues being reported too.

One thing I will note is that seemingly identical templates can be thrown off if our Terms & Conditions haven’t been accepted, or the plugin installation hasn’t been fully completed in each site’s version of Wordfence. I can’t tell if that’s definitely the case from Central so I was wondering if you could confirm that none of these sites have T&Cs or other installation notices outstanding in the admin area.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

hi @wfpeter I have had a look and from what I can see the T&C have been accepted on those accounts and I cant see any notices pointing to wordfence.

    Thanks @ryan2685 for confirming!

We are still working closely on this. Our QA team believe they’ve now managed to replicate your specific scenario in a test site but will be continuing to work today on making sure that’s definitely correct, and finding a solution when they’re sure.

I will try to respond as much as possible here whenever I hear more to keep you on top of the situation.

    Many thanks for your patience,
    Peter.

    Hi @ryan2685,

We have confirmed our theory that a setting can cause Local Changes to be reported if the format at the site’s end is different to what’s expected – but still valid. We are working on a resolution and hope to have a fix in production within a two-to-three week timescale. I’ll naturally leave this topic open so that I can re-test your templates, and report back at any time.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

hi @wfpeter I am glad you have been able to find the issue I look forward to your additional updates in the mentioned time period.

thanks again it is really apparechiated.

hi @wfpeter I hope you are well, as we are approaching the 3 week window since your last response I am just following up on this to see where we are with things and what progress has been made as our templates still show as “local changes” looking forward to your reply and if you need anything from us do let me know.

Hi @ryan2685, thank you for following up.

We have a development case in place that we are prioritizing and indeed were hoping to get that out by the end of last week. Unfortunately there has been an unforeseen delay, which was discussed in more detail during today’s team meeting. I have access to the case and can see the progress or any further notes added to it.

I will keep you updated in this post as best I can, but I wanted you to know it’s still high in our priorities.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

Hi @ryan2685, thank you for your continued patience.

We became aware of compatibility fixes that would have to be made to the Wordfence plugin for the upcoming WordPress 6.8 release, so that diverted our efforts and was released today. I have been able to speak with the development team and one of our next website releases will contain the update for the bug you’ve been seeing. We will re-check your Central sites when that is in place, and contact you again here.

In the mean time for your case, “Local Changes” being shown appears to be UI-related (as none of the sites report changes individually) but the sites should still be synced if the template itself has been synced.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

hi @wfpeter my apologies for my delayed response I have been in and out due to health and personal circumstances. Thank you for keeping me updated on this I have seen them just have not had the time to reply.

I look forward to the update which should address the issue we are facing but it is good to hear it is likely a UI issue instead of a actual problem. Looking forward to your next response and I hope you have a good weekend when it comes.

Thanks @ryan2685, appreciate you getting back to us.

It looks like the sync process will need to be addressed rather than Central itself so that’s a slightly larger job than first thought due to the amount of testing required. Once that has been resolved, sites with templates should report as being “In Sync” again in your case.

Our advice for now while this is in development is still to sync templates for all sites first if you make any changes to them. If selecting the “Configuration” tab, clicking the cog icon for any site reporting “Local Changes”, and picking “Review Changes” from the dropdown near the top shows there are no differences then the template is actually sync’d correctly and it’s just displaying incorrectly.

Thanks again for your help and patience with this matter,
    Peter.

I am just adding a note to say that sometimes topics can be closed to new replies after a certain period of time. This is different to resolving a topic, and is a limitation set by wordpress.org. If you ever find this has happened, don’t hesitate to start a new topic on the same subject and provide a link back to this one if you wish.

    Peter.
