• I’ve used ‘the popular SMTP mailer’ many times in the past, but given I’ve always ended up having to then pay the annual subscription fee for that one to get the features I needed, I though I’d try FluentSMTP this time around.

    So far – very impressed:

    • Amazon SES via API worked out of the box
    • Standard / Other SMTP using TLS worked well, albeit that my first attempt with the recommended custom port from the 3rd-party SMTP gateway (i.e. nothing to do with FluentSMTP) was blocked for outbound traffic by my WordPress hosting provider, so I switched to the default 587. The issue was rapidly self-diagnosed as FluentSMTP gave me a toaster notification of a 500 proxy/gateway error on the test-send.
    • SMTP2GO: I had an issue with the API method not working, so contacted the *free* FluentSMTP support service…. and was astounded to receive a comprehensive and useful response within minutes! Amongst the various “try these things” along with a custom video demonstrating a test of my scenario, was a line saying “if your ‘From name’ has a period in it, we recommend placing it in double-quotes.” This was the first thing I tried and success – so again, more of an issue with the SMTP2GO API, and their misreporting the issue in their POST response, than anything to do with FluentSMTP.

The support pages and instructions for Fluent SMTP look well maintained and appear to cover off most troubleshooting needs – and as I said, the free support service was very impressive!

The analytics and tracking features look good in WordPress itself – I can’t foresee that I’m going to need anything else.
