• Hello!
I read in some support pages that in the users roles list there should be a ‘super administrator’ but I am not seeing that role listed in my website’s user options. The greatest role listed is ‘administrator’.

Can anyone give me any tips as to why this might not be showing up for me. The biggest concern I have is that most of the backend isn’t visible under an ‘editor’ username so whenever I have tech support or any other website support I always have to give them the same permissions as me…which doesn’t seem like a super safe option.

    Thank you for your time!

  • Can you point to the “support pages” in question?

And are you running WordPress multisite? The Super Administrator role is only available in multisite.

Got it, I don’t have a multisite. Is there any way to give access to an editor or a second administrator of all of the editing, plugins, etc. without them being able to change the password of my own administrator account and lock me out of my own website?

There are several plugins that allow you to customize the permissions of individual users or entire roles. See: User Role Editor, for example.

But if being locked out if your site is your primary concern, note that as the site owner who manages the hosting account, you have multiple options to reset your admin password outside of WordPress (even if your email address has been changed).

Wow, huge article but very useful. Thanks.
