summary of posts under static page

Hello,
I am trying to show a summary of my latest posts under my static home page.
I have tried creating a seperate page for the posts and changing this in reading. Nothing happens.
Been searching for days now, have not been able to find an answer, forum is usually last resort.
Not sure why, or if there is another way to go about this.
