• After upgrading to 5.5 there are a couple places where post editing has gotten less efficient. Submitting these suggestions for future coding heroes:

    * Preview in a new tab

    Previously, Preview was a one-click action to open a new tab. Now it’s a two-click action. Might not seem like much but Preview in a new tab is one of the most commonly-used actions for me. I probably run it 20 times per post. So it’s doubling the number of mouse clicks.

    The Gutenberg editor does a decent job of previewing inline in the post editor, but it’s no substitute for seeing the actual preview with all plugins, theme and CSS loaded.

    My suggestion: create a keyboard shortcut for opening the Preview in new tab. Zero mouse clicks!

    * Select Blocks using keyboard

    Previous to 5.5 if I started typing “/im” it would guess that I wanted the Image block.

    Now with 5.5 it brings up a long list of image-related items e.g. GIF, Image Compare, even Business Hours for some reason. Image is well down the list.

    So it’s either multiple extra presses of the down arrow to get to Image, or I need to switch to the mouse.

    Similarly, “/sh” was enough to bring up the Shortcode block, “/ga” worked for Gallery, etc. These all take more clicks or keyboard presses in 5.5.

    My suggestion: go back to favoring autocomplete by Block Name rather than by meta-type or whatever it’s doing now.

    Thanks!
