The new post editor is just too complicated.

I’ve spent a lot of time to make a very simple post.

The new post editor has the same faults as MS Word with all of the auto formatting options turned on by default. It interferes with the user just typing what they want. It tries to FORCE them to do things a certain way. What was meant as a convenience becomes an interference to spend time needlessly working to undo.

Even worse, if you go into the code editor to do what you want, the visual editor will not allow your custom HTML. It will treat it like an error. Let people type what they want! That is why they go to the code editor, to get around the draconian visual editor.

A second way the new editor makes it HARDER to make a post is with all of the auto hiding and contextual un-auto-hiding. You never know where to go to find the tool bar button you need. It is there one moment and it is gone the next. It is an additional inconvenience to have to flip back and forth between document and block views of options.

Jesus, just having a textarea with formatting buttons above it was fine.

This new UI is over-engineered. It doesn’t enable me to do anything that I could not do in the old UI.

This new UI adds no value, only burdens.

    No disrespect meant.

Have an option to switch back to the older, simpler, post editor UI.

You can install the Classic Editor plugin, which has an option to either always use it or give the choice of editors.

Try using the Custom HTML block instead, when you want to put in custom HTML fragments. The code inside an HTML block will be ignored by the visual editor.

By and large, the editor is designed so that you don’t need to go to the code editor. If you want to do that, then do that.

But most people don’t know code, and don’t like looking at code, and want something simpler. I know HTML very well, and I prefer the new editor, because HTML is fiddly and I don’t want to write it by hand all the time. Sometimes, I just want to write a post, and stick some links and images in it. You know. Easy.
