    Hello,
I successfully installed WordPress and migrated MT entries, and configured it so that my blog appears at the root URL while WordPress lives in /wordpress/.
However, the mod_rewrite rules that WordPress suggests don't work. When I add them to my .htaccess, all attempts to access my site (hosted on DreamHost) result in a "500 Internal Server Error". Here are the rules that WordPress suggests:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^archives/category/(.*)/(feed|rdf|rss|rss2|atom)/?$ /wordpress/wp-feed.php?category_name=$1&feed=$2 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^archives/category/?(.*) /index.php?category_name=$1 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^archives/author/(.*)/(feed|rdf|rss|rss2|atom)/?$ /wordpress/wp-feed.php?author_name=$1&feed=$2 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^archives/author/?(.*) /index.php?author_name=$1 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^archives/([0-9]{4})?/?([0-9]{1,2})?/?([0-9]{1,2})?/?([_0-9a-z-]+)?/?([0-9]+)?/?$ /index.php?year=$1&monthnum=$2&day=$3&name=$4&page=$5 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^archives/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{1,2})/([0-9]{1,2})/([_0-9a-z-]+)/(feed|rdf|rss|rss2|atom)/?$ /wordpress/wp-feed.php?year=$1&monthnum=$2&day=$3&name=$4&feed=$5 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^archives/([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{1,2})/([0-9]{1,2})/([_0-9a-z-]+)/trackback/?$ /wordpress/wp-trackback.php?year=$1&monthnum=$2&day=$3&name=$4 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^feed/?([_0-9a-z-]+)?/?$ /wordpress/wp-feed.php?feed=$1 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^comments/feed/?([_0-9a-z-]+)?/?$ /wordpress/wp-feed.php?feed=$1&withcomments=1 [QSA]

Unfortunately, this is beyond my ability to debug, so I'm grateful for any mod_rewrite Jedi's that could lend a hand.

If you get this error, check first that your host has 'mod_rewrite' enabled. If they have not, you cannot use permalinks.
You can email them and ask if they have
    or
Paste this into a new Notepad / BBEdit file
    <?php infophp(); ?>
    Save as 'info.php'
Upload to server. Visit in your browser (www.example.com/info.php)
That will give you info about your php version and mod_rewrite.
It's a big page of info, so you will have to hunt for it..

    abhi,
why don't you login, and add your site info to the profile, so the forum software can automatically link your name to you website, dude?
    :)
