Support » Plugin: BP Profile Search » Suggested Feature: Disable Chrome Autofill

  • Resolved MBV

Apparently Chrome Autofill is causing problems for users because when selecting an autofill suggestion, it autofills some of the other search fields without them realising.

How do you suggest we completely disable Chrome autofill for profile search fields? Can it be a default option with the plugin’s form fields?

    Hello MBV,

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the autofill feature is controlled more by the browser’s settings, and less by the HTML code in the web page.

Unfortunately I don’t have much time to experiment right now but, if you wish to try, you could modify the form template you are using, adding something like “autocomplete=false” to the form and to the search fields. Please let me know if it works!

After you customize a form template, don’t forget to move it to the buddypress/members directory in your active theme directory, otherwise it will be overwritten in the next plugin update.

Hi Andrea, thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it!

I will have a look and experiment with the template as you suggest. I read somewhere to use autocomplete=”new-password” so I will try both.

I will let you know how it goes!

Adding either autocomplete=’false’ or autocomplete=’new-password’ to the case ‘textbox’ section of the code does the trick.

So now, I might still be able to select a suggestion. But they are not autofill suggestions that fill out other textbox fields too, which was confusing for some users.

Thanks again for your help and for the great plugin!

Great, I’ll add that code to the next revision of the form templates.

    Thank you for your feedback!
